5 Apps for a smarter home

Smart homes are becoming increasingly trendy as technology makes it easier and easier to control various aspects of their houses. From the thermostat to the living room lights, there are devices or apps that are able to control just about anything.

Here are five gadgets homeowners can look into to help make their home “smarter” – and their lives a lot easier.

    1. WeMo
WeMo is a beautiful little gadget that can turn any device that can be plugged into an outlet into a smart device. Because it can be controlled through an Android or iPhone via the WeMo application, this device has a lot of versatility to it. Televisions, irons, and coffee makers can all be controlled via WeMo. Some appliances can even be set on a schedule for the ultimate convenience.
    1. Alarm.com
Alarm.com is an incredible application that works with systems like Vivint’s to send push notifications to users when someone has arrived at their home or a door has been left open. The system also has all the usual remote-control capabilities such as the option to operate lights and change the temperature, too. These settings can be pre-set by the user and set off as they approach the home. The system uses GPS to locate the user’s whereabouts and executes the setting accordingly.
    1. Honeywell Total Connect Comfort A comfortable home is priceless, and the Honeywell Total Connect Control provides just that. The smart thermostat, which works via Wi-Fi, monitors the user’s habits to ensure that the house is always set to the best possible temperature. The setting can be pre-set so that before the user gets home, the entire environment of the home is as warm or as cool as the owner wants it to be.
    1. Direct TV
The satellite provider now allows subscribers to use their phone to record shows and organize their movie library all from a remote location within the Wi-Fi  range. This may seem like a simple update, but it is surprisingly convenient.
  1. Ninja Blocks
Last but certainly not least is Ninja Blocks. Ninja Blocks provides complete customization of home applications. Because Ninja Blocks was created with iOS in mind, it is straightforward to use and can be operated via Apple devices. Users looking to control every aspect of their home will do well to invest in the entire package, which includes sensors. Additional sensors can be purchased for roughly $15 each.

Turning a traditional space into a “smart” home is easier than ever with seemingly endless options. Gadgets like the Ninja Blocks are hot commodities at the moment, however, and need to be pre-ordered, so make sure to give your home transformation a bit of thought and planning – figure out your needs and browse the apps for the best fit.

All a homeowner needs is a couple of smart devices to enjoy the perks that they can provide at home. The future has arrived.
