Long Hill Township

Long Hill Township is located in Morris County and it includes the towns of Gillette, Millington, Stirling and Meyersville. Passaic Township as it was known prior to 1992 when the community changed its name to Long Hill Township. Today, despite commercial and suburban development, Long Hill has many historic structures ranging from eighteenth century farmhouses to the twenty-first century September 11th monument. They remind us of Long Hill’s legacy as a place of villages, farms, mills, and factories. As of 2010 the township’s population was 8,702 had a total area of 12.136 square miles.
The township is located in the most southern part of Morris County. It is bounded by the Passaic River on the south and west and by the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge on the north. It borders both Union and Somerset counties. The Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge covers 7,455 acres of land overseen by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.
The Long Hill Township School System serves public school students in pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade. As of the 2011-12 school year, the district’s three schools had an enrollment of 924 students and 70.2 classroom teachers, for a student–teacher ratio of 13.1. Schools in the district are Gillette School, Millington School and Central Middle School.
Long Hill Township’s high school students in public school for ninth through twelfth grades attend Watchung Hills Regional High School in Warren Township.
